The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested the sarpanch and gram sevak of Nilje village, Dombivli for demanding Rs 5.54 crore to give a no-objection certificate to a education institute. Four member of the gram panchayat, against whom offence has been registered, are absconding.
Police inspector Datta Pandhare said: “International Society for Education in Project Management and Research wanted 26 acre land from the state government. The state government granted the demand.”
Circle Office, Golvali, Dombivli, had asked the institute’s director Ramesh Jadhav to get a no-objection certificate of the Nilje gram panchayat.
Jadhav approached Nilje village gram panchyat office, where gram sevak Vivek Devare, sarpanch Ravindra Patil and members Girdhar Patil, Yashwant Patil and Sanjay Gaiker demanded Rs 5.53 crore.
Jadhav recorded the conversation which took place between Devare, Patil and a member of the gram panchayat, who had demanded bribe for the certificate. He approached to the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau and gave all the documents and mobile recording to the office.
An offence was registered in Manpada police station, Dombivli, against six people – gram sevak, sarpanch and four member of the gram panchayat. On Friday, Devare and Patil were arrested.
