The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda to undergo a potency test in relation to a rape case registered against him in Karnataka’s Ramanagaram district in 2010.

Coming down heavily on both the prosecution and accused for delaying the trial in the case, a bench headed by justice Ranjana Prakash Desai dismissed Ntihyananda’s appeal against Karnataka high court order directing him to take the medical test.

“Accused must take the medical test,” the bench said, warning Nithyananda that adverse inference would be drawn if he did not cooperate with the investigation and the trial court.

The SC also dismissed appeals of co-accused - Siva Vallabhaneni Dhanashekaran and Gopal Reddy Sheelum – to quash the rape charges invoked against them.

The bench also declined to entertain a plea by a woman devotee, allegedly found in compromising position with Nithyananda in a video telecast on television channels.
