A student was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly slashing his senior with a sharp blade in the premises of their school in suburban Malad, police said.

The student, who studies in class VIII, attacked the victim identified as Nishant Shukla, an SSC student, with a blade near the washroom of the school this morning, they said.

"Nishant had intervened in a fight between the accused and another schoolboy a few days ago. This enraged the accused and he attacked Nishant," Senior Inspector Subhash Dafle said.

The accused was caught by the school's staff who handed him over to the police. He was later sent to a remand home.

Nishant was administered stitches in a private hospital and is not in a position to talk, in order to record his statement, the police said.
