The medical examination of the victim had confirmed the crime.

The police that had initially registered a case on the charges of kidnapping and abduction later converted into rape after the victim's grandfather lodged a first information report (FIR) with the Sadar police on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Raj Kumar, while the main accused is at large. The vehicles involved in the crime - (HP 64-5584) and (HP 14 D-3100) - have been impounded.

Earlier, the police had arrested two persons, including a student of local Government Postgraduate Sanskrit College, on the charges of raping a minor girl of the same college on September 14.

In the FIR, the victim's grandfather stated that his granddaughter had gone to sleep in her room on Thursday night, but when she did not come out on Friday morning, they opened the door and found her missing. After this, they started searching her at all possible places. Later, it was discovered that the victim had been kidnapped by Rakesh Kumar and Raj Kumar, currently working as driver on private truck and pick-up jeep in Shamti area.

Superintendent of police Ramesh Chhajta said preliminary investigations revealed that Rakesh took the victim in his jeep towards Oachghat and after locating a secluded place, raped her inside the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Raj also arrived at the site and further took the victim in his mini-truck on the same road and committed the crime.

Later, the victim somehow managed to free herself from the accused, reached home and narrated the incident to her parents.

Chhajta said soon after the receipt of the information, he constituted special teams who nabbed Raj Kumar from Shamti area, adding that the main accused would be arrested soon.

A case has been registered on the charges of kidnapping and rape under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of the IPC.
