Separatists issue weekly protest calendar

The Majlis Mashawarat, amalgamation of several separatist groups, on Sunday issued the weekly protest calendar in support of their demand for handing over mortal remains of Mohammad Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat to their families.

In a statement, the Majlis (Consultative Committee) said there will be no strike on Monday, but called for protests after evening prayers and asked people to raise slogans demanding the handing over of the mortal remains of both Guru and Bhat.
 
The amalgamation called for a one-hour protest by government employees on Tuesday in support of the demand, the statement said, adding, there will be no strike on that day.
 
The committee called for a complete shutdown on Wednesday, while the Kashmiri diaspora across the world have been asked to protest outside Indian missions on Thursday while there will be no shutdown in the valley.
 
There will be no strike on Friday, the statement said, asking the Imams (priests) to lead protests outside the respective mosques.
 
Majlis called for sit-ins by male students across all the colleges and universities on Saturday and asked them to display placards and banners demanding return of the mortal remains of Bhat and Guru and in support of freedom of Kashmir.
 
There will be no strike on Saturday and Sunday, the statement said.
 
Both factions of Hurriyat Conference, JKLF, Kashmir Bar Association and Dukhtaran-e-Millat are constituents of the Majlis which was formed in the wake of Parliament attack convict Guru's execution inside Tihar Jail on February 9.
 
The main demand of the Majlis is return of mortal remains of Guru and Bhat.
 
Bhat was hanged and buried inside Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984 after he was convicted for murdering a police officer.
