Seven killed in road mishap in Nagpur

Seven persons of a wedding party were killed and at least 15 others were injured when a jeep carrying the party, collided head-on with a recklessly driven truck on Tumsar road near Kharbi, some 100 kms from here in Bhandara district on Wednesday early morning.


According to reports, the impact of the road mishap was so strong that the ill-fated jeep was completely damaged after the collision. The mishap led to a major traffic jam on Tumsar-Katangi road.

The rescuers recovered seven bodies and took the injured people to Tumsar civil hospital where five of them are reported to be very serious. The jeep was returning from Mahapal village in neighbouring Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh after attending a wedding reception. The groom and bride were in another vehicle and thus saved, the reports added.

The deceased were identified as: Vijay Jain (35), Asha Zode (28), Vikas Zode (7), Kamala Zode (45), Manubai Kapgate (55), Tuljabai Kapgate and Bharati Hivraj Ukey (10) and Kartik Kapgate (25). All the victims were from Balaghat.

The driver of the jeep, Vijay Jain, a resident of Mahapal in Balaghat was also killed in the accident. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
