Seven labourers killed in fire at blanket factory in Panipat

The reason so far cited by the police was short-circuit of wires; 22 fire tenders were used to extinguish the blaze

At least seven labourers were burnt to death and two others received serious injuries in a fire that erupted in a blanket factory in Kurar village of Panipat district on Friday.

The reason so far cited by the police was short-circuit of wires; 22 fire tenders were used to extinguish the blaze. Superintendent of police Rajesh Duggal confirmed the toll of seven and said all the victims were from nearby villages in the district. Five of the deceased were identified as Sunil, Ved Prakash, Budhan, Trilok and Shabnam. . The injured were sent to the civil hospital at Panipat and the bodies sent for post-mortem examination.

Transport minister Krishan Panwar and Panipat deputy commissioner Chander Shekhar Khare also reached the spot. The DC said some workers were rescued too.
