Sexually harassed minor sets herself ablaze

A minor girl, who was allegedly sexually harassed by a youth, set herself afire in Singrauli district on Monday. She died during treatment at a hospital. The incident comes a day after a minor girl alleged that she was gang raped in a moving bus in the district.

The incident took place at Nagma village. The 15-year-old victim was alone at home when she poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze. She was rushed to the district hospital but died during treatment, police said.

As per a report, a youth Sanjay Rawat, resident of the same village had made an attempt to rape her two days back. The girl was feeling mortified after the incident, according to her mother.

The family members came to know about the incident only after the girl told them while battling for her life.

Sub divisional officer of Police RS Parihar said, “In her dying declaration girl said that Sanjay Rawat had made an attempt to rape her. It was the only reason behind her extreme step.”

A case had been registered against the accused who is still at large.
