Shatrughan Sinha on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision of setting 75 as the cutoff age for his cabinet ministers.

“Instead of age, the criteria shall be mental alertness and health,” said the BJP MP from Patna Sahib, in an interview to CNN-IBN. “Experience and ability can go together,” said Sinha.

“Even at an age of 86, LK Advani has a sharp memory and energy like a 40-year-old man,” said the actor-turned politician who considers Advani as his “political guru”.

Sinha also applauded Murli Manohar Joshi for his contribution to the BJP and said he was capable of holding any post. “Whether or not Advani should be the Speaker should depend on his choice, but Advani and Joshi are very intelligent and extremely capable of holding any post,” said Sinha.

Sinha, who is known to speak his mind, however, stopped short of questioning Modi’s decision and said it was the PM’s prerogative to decide who is given which post.

“As a worker and member of the party, I will not question the collective wisdom of the Parliamentary Board of the party,” he said. “Ache din have come and even better days are ahead.”
