Seven people were killed and two others seriously injured, when the jeep in which they were travelling fell into a 400 metre-deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, some 500 kms from state capital on Monday.
Official sources said the jeep carrying a marriage party was in its way from Birkada Gairad village to Ghingrani village. There were 9 passengers, including the driver.
Sources said the driver lost control of the vehicle around 7 kms from where they started, and it rolled down into the gorge.
Seven people died on the spot, while two remaining passengers, including a 22-year-old male, were injured seriously, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre said.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed grief at the accident and instructed officials to take care of the injured.
