Call it bizarre but the Himachal Pradesh government has issued advertisement inviting quotations for purchasing two pieces of turban at 15 times the cost of the headgear.
The general administration department (GAD) had placed advertisements on May 31 in two newspapers inviting tenders to purchase 14 metre of cloth at the rate of `50 per metre for two turbans to be provided to drivers.
Social media went abuzz with the ‘costly’ affair with people posting snapshot of the advertisement and also taking on the state government for spending far more money on the advertisement than the cost of turbans. As per the advertisement, the cost of two turbans would not be more than Rs 700, but the advertisement cost would be manifold.
A However, the government defended it saying that it was a ‘mistake’. Additional secretary, GAD, Ashwani Kumar Sharma said it was a simple letter for seeking quotation and not for publishing in newspaper as tender.
“It was forwarded along with tenders for publishing in newspapers by mistake,” he said.
Meanwhile, people on social media took a jibe on the government saying the government could have gifted turbans to all its leaders by spending the same amount as was spent on a mere advertisement.
