Social media paves way for new recruitment practices

While the euphoria of clearing last semesters and becoming graduates is still f resh among city students, the daunting task of finding jobs lies ahead for most. While many colleges are offering campus placements, the number of such institutions are few, and the jobs, fewer, making it difficult for these youngsters to enter the industries of their choice. While job search portals have been around for a while helping students look for suitable jobs, social media is also catching up.

For instance, Facebook is flooded with sector specific job hunt pages, where vacancies are regularly posted by recruiters or leads for any openings are put up by those seeking jobs. These pages have caught the attention of students and have helped many get jobs, internships or trainee-ship in companies. One such page, titled Media jobs Daily has become extremely popular among mass media, public relations and journalism students. The page already has over 66,000 members and manages heavy traffic through the day.
