An army jawan was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Wednesday.

A police spokesman in Srinagar confirmed the death, but did not identify the slain soldier.

A police official told HT that the army man was injured in the ceasefire violation in the morning. “He was rushed to hospital but died on way,” he said.

An army official said “necessary and adequate” response has been given to the Pakistani firing.

The incident in Keran comes after continuous firing from Pakistani side in Arnia sector of Jammu division for the past many days, officials said.
