The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned on Wednesday the mutilation of an army soldier’s body by Pakistan, saying it will not take the incident lightly and will give a befitting response to the neighbouring country.

“The Macchil incident has saddened the entire nation. The fact that one of the soldier’s body has been mutilated is a testimony to the fact that Pakistan continues its dastardly acts, but India is not going to take this lying down. The Modi government will give befitting reply and an answer that they will remember for a lifetime,” BJP member Shaina NC told ANI.

The father of slain soldier, rifleman Prabhu Singh, said he will avenge his only son’s death.

“It’s a matter of pride that my son died for the nation, but he was my only son and now India should give a befitting reply to Pakistan,” Singh’s father said.

Three Indian soldiers were killed on Tuesday. The body of one of the soldiers was found mutilated.

“Three soldiers killed in action on LoC in Machhil. Body of one soldier mutilated, retribution will be heavy for this cowardly act,” the army tweeted.

This is the second such instance of a soldier’s body being mutilated near the LoC in North Kashmir in the last month.

The Northern Command also vowed “heavy retribution for the cowardly act”. The incident took place in Machil sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
