Days after her party’s dismal poll performance in four states, Sonia Gandhi is expected to set the tone for the 2014 general elections at Wednesday’s meeting with a call to Congress MPs to shed complacency and reach out to the people.

In her address to the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), she is expected to unveil the party’s strategy on the way ahead.

Gandhi had already expressed disappointment with the party’s poll performance but at the same time sought to reassure Congress leaders and workers with her assertion that the outcome of assembly elections would have no bearing on the Lok Sabha polls as the two were quite different. However, she had also promised deep introspection to rectify the mistakes. She had listed price rise as one of the factors for the people’s verdict.

The meeting comes on a day when the Lok Sabha will take up the Lokpal bill and the party has already sought to appropriate the credit to party VP Rahul Gandhi for his determination.

Social activist Anna Hazare too welcomed Rahul’s commitment to get the bill passed.

The meeting also comes nearly a month ahead of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session on January 17 amid speculation that Rahul Gandhi is expected to be anointed the party’s prime ministerial candidate.
