In a scathing attack on both the Central and the UP governments, national president of the Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday announced a ‘jail bharo’ agitation to warn the former and dislodge the latter.

The announcement came on the first day of the three-day special national convention of the party.

Yadav said: “There is a secret pact between the Congress and the Mayawati government due to which all the corrupt, wayward and autocratic practices of the state government is being ignored by the Centre.”

Inaugurating the convention at the Government Inter College ground, Yadav, however, remained silent on whether to withdraw support from the UPA government or not.

A noteworthy attraction of the first day of the convention was the presence of Kalyan Singh, former UP chief minister and BJP leader who sat in the first row beside Yadav wearing a red-coloured Lohia Vahini cap. Though Kalyan is yet to formally join the SP, his presence and the 'red cap' sent out strong speculations on his joining the party sooner of later. Kalyan Singh will address the convention on Thursday. Yadav said Kalyan Singh will be courting arrest along with him.
