Haryana education minister Geeta Bhukkal has said that in view of the successful implementation of the sports and physical aptitude test (SPAT) programme in the state, possibilities are being explored to implement it at the national level.

"Haryana is the first state in the country where the SPAT programme has been launched to look for talent in schools," she said while addressing a gathering after inaugurating a state-level primary sports competition here on Wednesday.

"Of nearly 20 lakh children participating under the programme every year, 5,000 are selected for monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000," the minister said.

On the participation of girls in the championship, she said it was a matter of pride that more girls were participating in sports at the primary level. "The government is helping girls and women in the state to excel in their selected field."

Rohtak legislator BB Batra, general elementary education director D Suresh and senior officers of district administration were present.
