Rahul Kumar, a student of a Rewari college, had reportedly approached the 20-year-old woman several times in the past two years, but was rejected every time. Sources said Kumar's parents were also in the know.

In spite of his parents' verbal assurances, Kumar did not mend his ways and allegedly attacked the victim when she was on her way to the college with a friend on Tuesday. Thereafter, the victim dashed to the ground and started bleeding profusely.

Sensing danger, the victim's friend raised the alarm and local residents gathered on the spot to catch hold of the accused.

To escape villagers' fury, Kumar barged into the village police chowki, but that did not help. Villagers thrashed him and he suffered a leg injury.

Rahul Kumar has been booked for attempt to murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police took the victim and the accused to the civil hospital for treatment and the duo was admitted to the trauma centre.
