A cultural troupe from the state comprising 23 artistes on Thursday presented rich glimpses of folk dances of Jammu and Kashmir at the Madyavarti Open Air Theatre as part of the 20th Lokrang Festival in Jaipur.

The cultural troupe was sent by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to represent the state at the festival. The performances by J&K artistes featured, among other things, Bhand Paether and Jagrana.

The Lokrang Festival is an important annual cultural event held in Rajasthan and draws artistes from different parts of India. It is being organised by Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, for the past 19 years. Around 1,500 artistes from 22 states are participating in the festival.

Besides Jammu and Kashmir, artistes from Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Haryana also presented dance performances on Thursday.

Apart from folk dances, a craft fair is another attraction of the festival where craftsmen from different states display their artifacts. Tens of thousands of visitors, including foreign tourists, visit the festival, which is held for 11 days. It provides a unique opportunity for the state to showcase its rich cultural heritage at a major platform.
