The Haryana government has decided to set up Prarambh, the country's first-of-its kind school, for teacher education that will initially prepare and subsequently guide teachers for their continuing professional development.

An official spokesperson of the education department said in a release on Friday that the initiative had been taken with an aim to bring best quality teachers to the 47 lakh-odd students in the state.

The spokesperson said Prarambh would seek to address the quality issue in elementary and secondary teacher education with built-in mechanisms for innovation.

It would be an autonomous institution having collaborations with national and international agencies of repute. It would have its dedicated 10-acre campus in Jhajjar, the spokesperson said.
A four-year integrated bachelor of education programme would be the first offering from the Prarambh School of teacher education. The programme would cover the academic content from degree to post-graduation level, the spokesperson said.

This would be a residential programme on the lines of the other top-notch undergraduate programmes, including engineering and medicine courses in the best of institutions in the country, the spokesperson said.

A high-powered committee under the chairmanship of Surina Rajan, principal secretary, department of school education, had been constituted for creating curriculum for this programme. Professors, academicians and teachers of repute from Delhi University, Central Institute of Education of Delhi, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and Humana Foundation of Netherlands will be the members of the committee.
