Union information and broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said the Opposition needs to stop dragging Prime Minister Narendra Modi into every issue for the sake of publicity.
“Now Modi ji’s name is dragged into issues only for publicity, and it has become a sort of fashion. Earlier, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) was pulled up for everything. If there is no rain or somebody doesn’t have a child, the RSS was blamed,” Naidu said, addressing the platinum jubilee event of the builder’s association.
Appreciating Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to deal with China and Pakistan, Naidu said, “but people in India criticize the government”.
“There should be a behavioural change in the people and Prime Minister Modi has initiated to bring out hidden talents in the country,” he added.
Naidu’s response came a day after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Centre was disrespecting soldiers by not fulfilling their long pending demand for one rank one pension.
Gandhi, who met the ex-servicemen protesting at the Jantar Mantar against the government’s lackadaisical approach on the Orop scheme, said the issue at this point of time was not just about the implementation of the scheme but giving justice to the soldiers.
The Congress vice-president also pointed out that the ex-servicemen “have also been demanding for implementation of the 7th Pay Commission and disability pension”.
Gandhi claimed that the demand for OROP was not just about money but about the soldiers’ pride and justice.
