Once known as the sub-capital of great Katoch rulers of Kangra hills, Sujanpur Tira will be developed as model city. This was stated by local MLA Rajendra Rana, who has recently joined the Congress legislature as its associate member.
In the first phase, footpaths will be constructed around Chaugan (ground) and floodlights and tubelights will be fitted for the benefits of locals.
Rana on Thursday said for the beautification of the ancient town, a detailed project report worth `12 crore had been prepared and sent to the central government for approval.
He said there would be no hitch for the clearance of DPR as the central government had vast funds for the development of small and medium towns of various parts of the country especially the hilly states.
Rana said under the programme, all nullahs flowing through the town would be channelised; inside town drains and paths will be made pucca; provision of benches for the people in the historic temples of the town; revival and proper cleaning of the old wells of the town, besides sanctioning a garbage dumping project for the town.
The MLA said state minister of urban development Sudhir Sharma had promised the local people that he would personally take up their project with the central government shortly so that necessary funds were available.
Rana said he was keen for the development of all parts of the Sujanpur assembly constituency and funds would not be constrained for this. He said he had already taken up the issue of installation of an ultrasound machine at the Touni Devi hospital of the area and had been assured by health minister Kaul Singh Thakur that this work would be done shortly.
