In a move that is likely to snow ball into a controversy, the government on Monday had appointed former state chief of National Student Union of India (NSUI) Atul Sharma as the vice-chairman of Himachal Pradesh Small Industrial Development Corporation (HPSIDC), with state Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu taking strong exception to the appointment.
The government on Thursday issued a notification against the appointment of Atul Sharma as the vice-chairmen of HPSIDC. Atul Sharma, a close confidante of chief minister Virbhadra Singh had remained the state unit head of Congress student wing NSUI.
Two years ago, when Kaul Singh Thakur was the party president, Atul Sharma along with seven other party men were suspended from the Congress for misbehaviour during the state office-bearers' meeting.
State party chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had himself opposed the re-induction of Sharma into the party fold.
When reached over phone, Sukhu said he had raised the issue of Sharma's appointment with the All India Congress committee (AICC) general secretary Ambika Soni.
Congress high command had already asked chief minister Virbhadra Singh to appoint chairman and vice-chairman of various boards and corporations after due consultations.
“I have confirmed from Ambika Soni that no permission was sought for Sharma's appointment as the vice-chairman,” he said.
Government had appointed Sharma as the vice-chairman, but there were several names for other corporations which have not been cleared for appointments even after the party high command's consent.
