In an honour killing case, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her parents in Matand village of Sonepat district on Saturday night.

Police said the victim was identified as Sweety, a student of junior basic teacher (JBT) course of an institute in Gohana, police said.

They said after the murder, the girl was thrown inside a cow-dung store on the outskirts of the village by her parents and then set on fire.

Police said Sweety reportedly had an affair with a boy, with whom she had eloped 15 days ago. However, she had returned home a few days ago. The family recently found out that she was planning to elope with the boy again, after which they killed her. The police got the information about the incident from the victim’s grandfather Dhaja Ram,. They reached the spot with a fire brigade tender which doused the fire. They later retrieved a half-burnt body of the girl, which was then sent for postmortem.

Based on the complaint of victim’s grandfather, police registered a case against the girl’s father Balraj and mother Sudesh at Baroda police station. Police said the duo was on the run and police teams were sent out to nab them. Gohana DSP Rajiv Deswal said the boy with whom the girl reportedly had an affair was not identified. “Further investigations are going on. Things will be clear after the accused are arrested,” he said. This is the second case of honour killing within a week in Haryana. A similar case was reported in Bhiwani earlier this week.
