Despite an MCG ban, tankers have been flouting norms and dumping sewage in the open in Gurgaon. With all appeals from residents falling on deaf ears, they have no option but to deal with pollution and wait for some solution.

"We have clicked as many as 20 to 25 pictures in the past fortnight and sent them to Gurgaon authorities, including the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon website, hoping for some action. Private tankers are openly flouting guidelines and we have proof," said Vikas Gupta, a resident of Vatika City.

The wastewater not damages road and infect groundwater, but it is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, residents lament. A few months ago, the MCG announced that any such act by tankers would amount to a fine of R1,000 or imprisonment up to three months.

However, though the civic body has claimed to have taken action, pictures showing tankers disposing sewages all along Golf Course extension road is contrary to the claims.

The corporation has also failed to reveal how many tankers have been impounded or challaned. "We issued strict instructions to tanker owners not to dispose sewage anywhere else but at three designated places only. They are STP (sewage treatment plant) Behrampur, STP Dhanvapur and STP Sector 43 DLF," said YK Garg, MCG superintending engineer.

"Such tankers cannot dispose sewage in our plants at all," said AK Maggu, executive engineer, Huda.
