After concluding arguments in a case challenging the appointment of Haryana School Teachers' Selection Board (HSTSB) members, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday reserved its orders. The high court stay of April 11 on the declaration of teachers' recruitment results by the HSTSB will continue.
A division bench led by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul was hearing a petition filed by Vijay Bansal, president of Panchkula-based NGO Shivalik Vikas Manch. The petitioner had sought quashing of the HSTSB Act, 2001, stating it to be violative of the Constitution. It was submitted that the Haryana Public Service Commission should make all recruitments, which were now being made by the HSTSB.
The petitioner had challenged appointments of the chairperson and members of the board allegedly made by extending favouratism. Members of the board are Brig (retd) Nand Lal Poonia (chairperson), Gian Chand Sahota, Jagdish Prasad, Serena Mahajan and Tribhuwan Parkash Bose.
The state government had requested the court that since there was a shortage of teachers in the state, the court should vacate its stay on the declaration of results of the already-held recruitment examination.
