In yet another incident of sexual assault on a minor in Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by four youths in the Madiaon area here on Wednesday night.

And like in several other recent cases of rape and murder in the state, the latest crime too was committed when the girl had gone out to answer nature's call on Wednesday night.

It has been revealed that the most of these cases were taking place due to absence of toilets in rural households forcing women to move out at night to answer nature's call and fall prey to lurking predators.

The incident came to light after the girl returned on Thursday morning and narrated her ordeal to her parents.  The girl was accompanied by her younger brother when she was kidnapped by two youths on a motorcycle.

The police came under the scanner once again as family-members accused cops of not taking the matter seriously even after coming to know about the kidnapping on Wednesday night.

Instead of launching a search for the abducted girl, they sat on the complaint after lodging an FIR for elopement of a minor girl, family-members said.

Police swung into action only after the girl returned with contusion marks on her face that narrated the ordeal that she went through.

Akhilesh Narayan Singh, circle officer (CO) of Aliganj, told HT that one of the accused -- identified as Amarpal of a near-by village -- has been arrested while raids are going for the arrest of remaining three accused.

He said two of the accused -- Neelesh and Akhilesh Tiwari --  were familiar to the girl and frequently visited her place while the fourth's identity is still not known.

He said the two familiar youths had abducted the girl while the other two later joined them.

The CO said, "The girl has been sent for medical examination. However, preliminary examination suggested that she has been tortured in captivity," said Singh.

He said the girl's clothes have been sealed for further investigation.

The girl told the police that Neelesh and Akhilesh took her to a nearby village where two others joined them and gang-raped her.

She said the accused tortured and beat her up when she resisted. She said they later released her after threatening her not to inform anyone. She returned to her house early morning with injuries on her face.

Police probe also revealed that Neelesh even played a trick so that her family-members would not suspect him. He returned to the girl's house and informed them about the girl's kidnapping.

He also called up to the police control room from his cell phone when family-members sought help from him to trace the girl.

The girl belongs to an economically weak family and stays here in a Madiaon village along with her grandparents and two younger brothers.

Her father, who is a electrician, is based in another district and visits the house every two-three month. Her mother, however, has separated from her father and stays away alone.
