Third Buldhana girl lodges rape complaint against tribal school staff

A week after two tribal girls complained of being raped at a tribal boarding school in Buldhana district, a third victim stepped forward on Wednesday.

The 12-year-old survivor lodged a complaint against the employees of Nimbaji Kokre Ashramshala in Hiwarkhed near Khamgaon in Buldhana district.

According to special investigation a team (SIT) source investigating the rape charges, the girl, accompanied by her parents, lodged the complaint with the Khamgaon police station on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, an assistant tribal project officer and an education extension officer of the tribal department were suspended on Tuesday for ignoring the exploitation of minor tribal girl students in the school.

SG Sutar, assistant project officer, and VA Wankhede, education extension officer, were suspended by the state’s tribal commissioner. A communication in this regard reached the office of additional tribal commissioner, Amravati, on Tuesday, said Girish Sarode, the additional tribal commissioner.

The incident came to light when one of the girls went home for Diwali and complained of stomach ache to her parents, who informed the local village leader. Their complaint was taken up by the police. Two girls of the school lodged complaints with the local police against its teachers and employees.
