Thousands stage protest against 'rape' of 15-yr-old

Thousands of people from Kishtwar area of Chenab valley staged a protest demonstration against the administration over illegal confinement of a 15-year-old girl by a village defence committee (VDC) member and his associates.

According to reports, a 15-year-old girl of Batkoot Nagbattna area was abducted on Thursday by a group of persons, including a special police officer (SPO). Some civilians found her from near the forest area on Friday and took her to Kishtwar hospital for medical examination, report of which is still awaited. It is said that four persons had allegedly raped her.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested two persons, including SPO Rajinder Singh and his colleague Master Sangeet Singh of Kuntwara.

Police said they were tracing others involved in the incident. One Churu Ram, a VDC member is absconding and police have launched a manhunt to trace him as well.

Agitated people staged a massive protest demonstration at Kishtwar bus stand after offering Friday prayers demanding stern action against the culprits.
