Three people, including a 7-year-old child, of a family were charred to death and 15 houses gutted in a fire that started after a leak from an overturned LPG tanker in Assam on Monday night.
The accident took place around midnight after the tanker loaded with liquefied petroleum gas, on its way from Guwahati to Jorhat, met with an accident and overturned at 10:30pm at Rangamati in Golaghat district - nearly 220 km east of the state capital.
“Following the accident, gas started leaking from the tanker and it resulted in a fire that gutted over 15 nearby houses. Three people were killed in the fire,” said Dhrubajyoti Bora, additional superintendent of police (Golaghat).
More than 20 others sustained injuries in the incident.
The fire was brought under control after several hours. Detail of the total damage to property is yet to be ascertained.
The accident comes a day after 3 people, including a 7-year-old girl, were killed when an LPG tanker lost control and hit them at Bihaguri in Sonitpur district in a separate incident on Sunday morning.
