Three positive cases of swine flu reported in Nagpur

Three positive cases of swine flu were reported in Nagpur on Wednesday evening. This is the first time that cases of swine flu in the second capital were confirmed by the medical college and hospital authorities.

Dr Dipti Dongaonkar, the dean of government run Medical College and Hospital, informed that three cases of swine flu were found in the blood samples which were sent to Pune lab on August 7 for testing.

“We sent blood samples of eight suspected swine flu patients. And, of them, three were found positive. We got the report this evening itself,” she added.

The patients were identified as: Mukesh Dangre (26), his wife, Suvarna Dangre (23) and Lokesh Rajurkar (20). Of them, Mukesh and Suvarna are software engineers, based in Pune while Lokesh was studying engineering at Pune. All of them came in Nagpur last week when the swine flu struck in Pune. They had been to Medical College and Hospital on August 7 after complaining of flu-like symptoms.

Earlier, a 25-year-old resident doctor of local government run Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, who reached the city on Sunday from Pune, was admitted to government medical college and hospital with symptoms of suspected swine flu. The patient was identified as: Dr Dilip Sawale. The vital signs, temperature and blood pressure of the patient were stable, the medical college hospital sources claim. His blood sample report is still awaited.

Over 100 panicky people of the city came to the medical college and hospital for the last three days. Most of them were counseled and allowed to go home. Blood sample of over 50 suspected patients were collected and sent to Pune for test As many as 17 suspected swine flu patients were admitted at the hospital so far, the medical college sources further informed.

Meanwhile, five suspected cases of swine flu in Wardha while three cases were reported in Yavatmal district.
