Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his office to draw up an itinerary that will allow him to step out of the Capital and travel to other parts of the country whenever possible, sources in his office have said.

Modi, who spent Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh and Kargil, wants to repeat such visits to connect with people, especially in three other poll-bound states.

“The PM has said he would like to address public meetings and even meet party workers whenever he goes for the launch of centrally sponsored schemes in the states,” a senior official in PMO said. “He has made it very clear that he is not a Delhi person and does not want to remain caged in Raisina Hill.”

Though the PM wants to interact with people directly, it may not be possible given the threat perception and the SPG cover that he moves with, the officer said.
