A woman and her two daughters were clubbed to death with lathis and iron rods in a blood-curdling incident in the posh Patliputra Colony of north-western part of the state capital in the wee hours of Saturday.

Anila Singh (45) and her two daughters Sonali (19), a BA part-II student of Magadh Mahila College and Purnima, a class 7th student of a private school, were found murdered in their house located in Indirapuri area under the Patliputra police station.

A relative, unable to contact them on phone, visited the house around 11 am and found the three lying in two separate rooms, with their skulls crushed and their bodies battered.

The body of the schoolgirl, Purnima, was found in her school uniform. There was no sign of burglary, indicating that the killers had come with the express intent of murder. No arrest has been made till Saturday evening.

The incident was reported on Saturday morning, after a close relative, Jogendra, found the three bodies lying in two blood-splattered rooms.

Police said the incident occurred in the absence of Anila’s husband, Gopal Sharan Singh, a retired government officer, who had gone to New Delhi two days ago to meet his two sons.

“Singh made several calls and tried to contact his wife on her cell phone. When she failed to respond, he called up Jogendra and asked him to visit the house,” said a police officer.

Jogendra knocked at the main gate of the house but getting no response he entered the house through the back gate to find the bludgeoned bodies inside.

A police team, including DIG (central range) Sunil Kumar, Patna SSP Amrit Raj and City SP Jayant Kant, rushed to the spot to inspect the site of occurrence and ordered detailed investigation.

The forensic team and a sniffer dog squad had also been pressed into service to track the killers.

“There’s no sign of forcibly entry. It also seems there is nothing missing from the house. Only the forensic team can tell us as to when they were exactly killed," the SSP said.
