Trouble is surrounding DMK and its leaders from all directions. If former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran is running around to save himself from being prosecuted in 2G scam and related cases, another former Union minister and DMK patriarch’s son, MK Alagiri is facing possible arrest in Madurai in a land grab case.

Another former telecom minister A Raja and DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanomozhi are out on bail in the 2G spectrum case. Karunanidhi’s wife, Dayalu Ammal was given bail in another 2G related case of Kalaignar TV receiving funds from the scam-tainted company.

While they are engaged in legal battles, Alagiri has been booked for allegedly grabbing land belonging to Mariamman temple near Thirumangalam for Dhaya Engineering College, run by a trust headed by the former minister.

A complaint was made to the police by officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) about the temple land. In June, the land near the college, owned by the family members of Alagiri was inspected following a complaint made by M Ramalingam, president of Madurai District Farmers’ Welfare Association.

He had alleged that Alagiri had grabbed the land by purchasing fake documents.

The FIR against Alagiri has charges of cheating and forgery, sources said.
