Telangana Rashtriya Samity (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday sounded confident of the passage of the Telangana bill during the ongoing session of Parliament even as the two Houses continued to face opposition-sponsored logjam.

Rao had met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and some other senior leaders in the past few days over the issue.

“I have assurance from the top level that there will not be any delay in passing the bill,” Rao told HT at the Parliament building.

While the BJP is believed to have developed cold-feet on the issue of supporting the Congress to pass the bill, Rao pointed out that in Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj had sought suspension of some anti-Telangana MPs for disrupting the House. “On March 24, 2012, Swaraj had suggested that the MPs should be suspended. It is in the record of the House. This time too, if such a situation arrives, the BJP must support every step that may be required to pass the bill.”

When asked that MPs cutting across party lines are disrupting Parliament, Rao argued, “If the Andhra Pradesh assembly can decide the fate of the resolution on creating the separate state through voice vote, then the same path can be adopted in Parliament too, to pass the Telangana bill.”
