Two children, one of them an infant, died late Sunday night in Firozabad as ambulances running under the Samajwadi ambulance service allegedly failed to respond to distress calls.

Manish Asija, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Firozabad, has decided to raise the issue in the state assembly.

In separate instances, two girls — 14-year-old Rama Devi and three-month-old Priyanshi — were seriously ill.

They were referred to Agra for treatment. Despite distress calls, the ambulance service did not respond. As a result, both children died in Firozabad, their family members said.

Under the Samajwadi ambulance service, patients are assured of an ambulance within 10 minutes of dialling 108.
