Two including woman killed in clash between groups in Rohtak

Two Arya Samaji activists including a woman were killed while several others injured in a violent clash between Arya Samajis and Sant Rampal supporters at Karontha village in Rohtak, here on Sunday.


As Arya Samajis continued to march towards the ashram, the police first lathicharged and then opened fire on the protesters resulting in bullet injuries to two persons and killing one.

The Arya Samajis yesterday had given an ultimatum for closure of the ashram for Sunday, however, when it was not done, their activists clashed with supporters of Sant Rampal and police.

At the time of filing the report, more than 80 persons including police personnel were reportedly injured.

The Rohtak SP Vivek Sharma also reached the spot with additional force to take stock of the situation.

Reason for clash
The district administration had sealed the dera under Section 145 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (dispute concerning land or water likely to cause breach of peace) after a clash in 2006, but in February this year, Sant Rampal dera reclaimed the possession of the land with the due permission of the Supreme Court. But Arya Samajis group have raised objections to this.
