Two killed as car rolls down gorge

Two people, including a girl, died and two others received serious injuries when the car they were travelling in rolled down a deep gorge near Dalash Anni here on Thursday.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as driver Jivender Sharma, 35, and his niece Sunena, 14, daughter of Nagender Sharma.

Payal, 9, another daughter of Nagender, and Mehak, 6, daughter of Jivender, received severe injuries. They have been admitted to the civil hospital at Rampur, from where they were referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

Anni deputy superintendent of police Parveer Thakur said overspeed could be behind the accident, due to which the driver failed to control the vehicle. The victims were on the way to Chhkol from Luhari.

In another accident, a man succumbed to his injuries and 13 others died in a collision between two vehicles near Aut tunnel under Mandi district on Wednesday evening. Nine out of 13 people were admitted to the Kullu regional hospital.

Station house officer (SHO) Anil said the incident took place when a Tata Sumo collided head-on with an Innova vehicle, which was parked on the roadside.

Two people were standing outside Innova when the Tata Sumo hit the duo. The deceased has been identified as Bhupender Kumar of Jammu. Two patients were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.
