Two women from Andhra Pradesh who had come to Odisha on vacation drowned in a river in Rayagada district on Thursday while clicking a selfie, police said.

E Jyothi, a 27-year-old from Vishakhapatnam, and S Sreedevi, a 23-year-old from Vizianagaram, were taking a selfie while standing on the hanging bridge over the Nagavali river in the afternoon when one of them fell into the gushing waters. The other woman tried to save her, but both drowned, said police

Fire department personnel recovered the bodies, which were sent for post-mortem examination.

In another case of death while taking a selfie, a 54-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant in Sundargarh district in September.
