UGC for awareness campaign among students on cashless, digital transactions

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked universities and its affiliated institutions to launch a month-long campaign to create awareness about cashless and digital transactions among students and shopkeepers from December 12.
The UGC has asked institutes to rope in volunteers associated with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) for the initiative. The volunteers will adopt one market outside campus and help shop owners make the transition to digital transactions. A similar campaign will be rolled out in IITs, NITs and other state-funded institutes.
Ensuring that all the campuses are made completely cashless by adopting digital payment systems in all its receipts, payments and transactions is an important component of the campaign.
“Participation in the campaign by youths studying in higher educational institutions is relevant because they would be the main beneficiaries of a digital economy that is free of corruption, black money and is completely transparent and just,” UGC secretary Jaspal Sandhu said in a letter addressed to state universities.
