Local lad Raj Sandhu, who took to modelling as a hobby, will debut as the lead in a Bollywood movie titled 'Nirnay 1972', to be released soon.His father Hari Chand Sandhu told the media here on Wednesday that Raj, who held a degree in electrical engineering from Kala Amb in Sirmour district, had rejected an offer to work in a hydel project in Jammu and Kashmir to pursue his dream of acting in movies.
Starting with small modeling assignments, Raj gained recognition when he won the Mr Himachal, Mr Chandigarh, Mr North-India and Indian Super Model pageants, and moved to Mumbai, he added."He has also modeled for brands such as Nike, Meena Bazar and Alcott," he said.
Speaking over the telephone from Mumbai, Raj said his movie, directed by Sandeep Sir, is based on the social structure prevailing in 1972. Raj plays Vijay, a tenant who fights against exploitation at the hands of his landlords.
"The film will be released soon, and two songs might be shot in the valleys of Himachal Pradesh," he added.Raj said he had also signed a Punjabi film titled 'Lafanders', for which shooting would start next month.
