Communal tension gripped Roshan Nagar village under Mahrajganj police station in Faizabad district after clashes erupted between two communities over a piece of land.

The village head, Maniram, said a group tried to grab a piece of government land for allegedly constructing a religious structure.

According to him, tension gripped the area when another group protested. Eventually, a clash broke out and gunshots were fired.

Police rushed to the village. Officials said action would be taken against those who tried to grab the government land.

Meanwhile, tension gripped Kaiserganj town in Bahraich district after remains of cattle were found lying by a road near Tehsildar office.

Alleging that some people in the area were indulged in illegal slaughter of cattle, local residents blocked the movement of traffic on Bahraich- Lucknow highway.

In a separate incident, members of two communities clashed after the remains of cattle were found lying in a field in Kanchapur Piruwa village under Motipur police station.

Uttar Pradesh is on the boil owing to communal clashes, including the Saharanpur riots, that have erupted in the state of late.
