The Rampur police on Monday launched a manhunt for anti-social elements who allegedly kidnapped, raped and killed a woman and then dumped her body on the Bareilly- Delhi highway.
According to a police officer, the villagers told the cops the woman's body was found lying near the highway. The unidentified body was found naked with injury marks on it. The police team visited the nearby villages and scanned the reports of the police stations but found no complaint of anyone having gone missing there.
Deputy superintendent of police Tejvir Singh said that preliminary investigation indicated the woman had been raped and killed. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
"We are trying to establish the identity of the woman. The crime might have been committed at another spot. The killers dumped the body on the highway to confuse the police," Tejvir said.
Singh said the police had registered a case and teams had been constituted to nab the killers.
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl was gang raped at Kanchousi village in Auraiyya district on Sunday night when she went to a field to relieve herself.
Acting on the complaint of the girl's father, the police registered an FIR and arrested two persons Rajvir and Puran Singh. A police officer said the girl had been sent to hospital for a medical examination.
