Machine cut currency notes were found today strewn along NH-34 and sacks of the same were found lying near Krishnagar in Nadia district. "The small cut pieces of the currency notes of the denomination of Rs 1000, Rs 500 and Rs 100 were found scattered on a 3-km stretch on the national
highway from Kalirhat to Gobindapur in Shantipur," District Magistrate Onkar Singh Meena said.

The police also seized 14 sacks of machine cut currency notes with seals of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on them, he said.

"RBI has been informed and an official will examine the pieces on Monday," Meena said.

The pieces were packed in fertilizer sacks and weighed 50 kg each, sources said.

It would be examined whether fake or stolen, DM said.

Usually damaged, defaced or soiled currency notes are cut into small pieces by machine and disposed off to make paper pulp, Meena said.
