‘When people can laugh at sweet little things, why be abusive?’

Aashqeen, along with his friends, started a Facebook page on which they initially posted amateur videos. Little did they know that their videos will build a support base of 15 lakh followers within a year.

Does comedy always needs to be abusive and vulgar? These social media stars challenge the way it works.

“When people can laugh at sweet, little jokes, why use vulgar language for it? We focus on content that people can relate to with their daily lives,” says Aashqeen, 24, an engineering graduate who makes people laugh with his funny videos. He was here in Sonepat to perform a stand-up act with his group when HT caught up with them for a short chat.

Aashqeen, along with his friends, started a Facebook page by his name, on which they initially posted amateur videos. Little did they know that their videos will build a support base of 15 lakh followers within a year.

“We take inspiration from our own and our friends’ lives to make the videos. That’s why they are mostly about struggling engineers and their relationships. Our friends have started coming to us to share their weirdest stories, many of which we have converted in videos,” says Dikshant Negi, a leading actor with the group.

‘A jilted man crashing his lover’s wedding for free biryani’, ‘Man turning into rickshaw-wala for a day to say ‘no’ to the girl who once refused his proposal’ are some of the hilarious videos they have made, many of which have crossed 40 million views on Facebook.

“Our mutual love for acting and entertaining people makes this a fun ride. We are getting so much love and support from people that we are now starting our own production house,” says Barkha Sethi, another actor in the group
