According to reports, Reena (name changed) of Bishnupuri village eloped with her lover on June 16 but came back due to police pressure after two days. In her statement in court, she stated that a woman (the accused) of the village had taken her and also raped her as she “has both male and female organs.”

On June 26 the police took the accused into custody and after a medical examination in which she was proved to be a female, they released her. But Reena’s family members continued to suspect the accused, who then sent her husband to Kasausi village to seek a local public representative’s intervention. Following his request, a panchayat was held on Saturday evening.

Reena’s family members demanded check-up at the panchayat. The panchayat ordered sex determination of the accused by three women of the village.

SSP, Mohit Gupta told HT: “I have no knowledge about any such incident but if that has taken place no one will be spared.”
