A 26-year-old woman has alleged that she was abducted, drugged inside a moving car and sexually assaulted at a secluded spot in south Delhi on Wednesday evening by three men. As per her complaint, the men dumped her on a street and fled.
The woman is a mother of a toddler.
The three accused, later identified as Jitender, Jai Bhagwan and Ajay, have been arrested. All three are cab drivers and residents of Nangal Dewat village near the domestic airport. The vehicle used in the crime, a white Skoda Superb, has also been seized.
“In her complaint, the woman stated that she had stepped out of her residence in Rangpuri Pahadi area to visit the local market when the incident took place. She was waiting at the bus stop near the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre around 10pm, when Jitender and Jai Bhagwan spotted her and forced her into their car,” said a senior police officer, adding that Jitender was driving the car.
The accused used a handkerchief dabbed in chloroform to knock her out and drove her to a forested area in the Nangal Dewat village area. The woman alleged that the three men took turns to rape her as she flitted in and out of consciousness.
“The ordeal allegedly lasted for close to three hours. She was later dumped at Andheria More a little before 1am before they fled,” the officer said quoting from the woman’s complaint.
The police said they received a call informing them about the incident around 12:45am after which a team headed by a female officer rushed to her location.
Based on her complaint, a case was registered and the three accused were arrested on Thursday morning and booked under Section 376 (g) for gang rape.
But as per police sources, there are some inconsistencies in the version of events as described by the women and the accused after they were questioned.
“The woman had claimed that she was going to the market, but according to the men she had hailed their car, thinking it was a cab and asked for a ride. There are similar discrepancies in other details. For instance, as per her medical report, she did not sustain any physical injuries - which more or less debunks the fact that she was brutally sexually assaulted as she has claimed,” said an officer.
However, a senior police officer said, “Yes, there are differing versions of the event but that doesn’t mean that there was no sexual assault. Whatever the case may be, we are still investigating it,” the officer added.
