A woman constable, who had gone to a pub in Vile Parle with her team to resolve a fight between two guests and the staff, was allegedly molested by the guests on Sunday.
The incident took place around 3am, at a pub near Juhu gymkhana, which is frequented by celebrities. The accused — Shrinivas Sundarvardhan, 28, from Tamil Nadu and S Shashtri Krishna, 25, from Kochi, Kerala — were drunk, said an officer from the Juhu police station. They were given a bill of Rs14,000. However, they fought with the staff, saying they will not pay as it has been inflated.
This resulted in a brawl, after which the staff alerted the police control room. A police team was sent to the spot. The police staff, comprising a woman constable and two policemen, requested the duo and the staff to come to police station, but the former refused.
This led to another heated argument between the police and the duo, who then allegedly pushed the police personnel and touched the policewoman inappropriately.
The duo was then taken to Juhu police station, where an FIR was registered under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (whoever assaults or uses criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before a magistrate’s court on Sunday and have been remanded in police custody for a day.
