Woman gangraped, one arrested in Poonch

A woman was allegedly gangraped while one of three accused was arrested in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said on Sunday.


"A 35-year-old widow, who had gone for a medical examination in a sub-district hospital in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by three people last night." 

The sources said the victim boarded off a passenger taxi in the evening and was on way back to her house in Kalaban village on foot.

"The three accused chased the woman, kidnapped her and took her to an isolated place." They repeatedly raped her and escaped from the spot, they added.

The victim narrated the incident to locals and they informed the police.

The woman identified the accused as Tariq Iqbal (Veterinary Department employee), Tazeem Ahmed (driver) and Muzaffar, all residents of Kalaban village.

Police said one of the accused has been arrested while raids were being conducted to arrest the others.
