A woman and her two-year-old daughter lost their lives when the car in which they were travelling was washed away in a strong current from an overflowing river due to heavy rainfall on the Mumbai-Bangalore national highway on Thursday night.

Vishakha Sachin Wadekar and her daughter Sanskriti were travelling with their family. Vishakha’s body was found this morning, while police are still searching for Sanskriti’s.

An almost eight foot high wave trapped vehicles using the busy NH-4 near Shindewadi.

Three more cars were washed away by the current, but their passengers were safe, said Pune rural police.

While traffic on the national high way was completely disrupted because of incident, the water had subsided by morning.
